By Scott Losenicky
Bought this Lawn Boy mower from Amazon on Monday. Arrived in Hawaii on Friday (FedEx). Box came shipped with an external box "sleeve" to protect the actual box.
Mower was easy to remove from the box, only thing to put together was the handle (screw to mower body). Separate oil came in the box but had to search for a non-ethanol gas station as mowers today are not made for ethanol. Instruction clearly state using E85 or ethanol may damage the engine and void the warranty.
Mower started on the first pull after gassed up. Cut like a dream! Many mowers spew grass clippings as you move along, this one as I cut along our Lanai, clippings stayed under or behind the mower, no need to blow or sweep clippings.
I've seen other reviews on Lawn Boy mowers that state you can't pull it back, well of course not when the self-propelled is engaged. Pulls back just fine once you let go of the bar. Throttle is built into the bar so if depressed the whole way, the mower does move along quite fast. It was easy to find the middle ground for me to easily walk behind.
At this time (after the first mowing) I would highly recommend this mower!

By Joe M. Eckler
It is nice to have a lawn mower that you can push with one hand and have a beer in the other. Just kidding, maybe. I paid for this on a Sunday and it was in my garage Tuesday afternoon. I'll never used the grass catcher and will sell it for 20 bucks plus shipping, eckler2@yahoo.com.
Anyway, one pull and it fired right up! What a shock. I cut my yard. I could not believe that it was so easy with the self propelled. I then went to the house on my left and cut it. I was still feeling so fresh because of the ease of use. I am usually beat after just my yard. I was having so much fun with my toy that I cut the front yards of 3 more neighbor's yards. I live in a cul-de-sac and I was very popular with the neighbors today. My neighbor's yard on the left has very thick grass and it was high. We have been having rain even this day and everyday on and off for the last 5 days so everyone had high grass. That yard, the mower died over five times with the thick high grass, but it started right up first pull every time. One yard, across the street owned by the UPS man could not believe that I cut his yard without the bagger. The mulcher works like a million. After one day and 5 yards of use, I am very satisfied with this excellent self propelled lawn mower. I'm 50 and should have bought something like this 30 years ago!

Got this mower to replace a $400+ 6 year old Toro self propelled mower that finally died. This mower is better in every way and much lower cost too. Lighter weight and easier to maneuver around the yard. The rear wheel drive self propel is great on the hills and will move faster than I can walk if I want it to. Much better than the front wheel drive ones. Another reviewer stated that this 5.5 Briggs & Stratton is weak and not powerful enough and to buy the older model with the Kohler engine. I say the opposite I just cut down some thick 6 inch Fescue grass and it mulched it no problem and did not bog down. My old toro 6.5 hp engine would stall in the same grass. Not this one plenty of power. I have had much better luck with Briggs & Stratton than other more "off" brand engines such as Kohler and Tecumseh. Plus Briggs parts are common and low cost the others are not. I will take the Briggs any day. More on the engine. I unboxed the mower and poured in 16 oz of oil and filled with gas and with the first pull of the rope it started right up. Always starts with one pull of the rope and runs nice and smooth. Mower came on time thanks amazon and ups but would advise better packaging for the mower it did shift some inside the box due to lack of padding and the rear wheel adjusters were a little bent. I was able to bend them back but better padding inside the box would fix this issue. Only other small complaint is that out of the box the mower is only a mulch and bag. You have to register online or send in a post card to receive a free rear grass discharge chute. Why could they just not include in the box if it is "Free". I now have to wait 4 weeks for it to come but no big deal. I mainly mulch the grass. Overall I would for sure buy this mower again and would highly recommend it if your looking for a lightweight under 60 lbs mower that is self propelled and has plenty of power, easy to use and under $300. Try to find another under $300 self propelled rear wheel drive mower. There are front wheel drive ones but they don't perform as well on hills or rough terrain.
